The improved pass rush and overall edge play vs. the Ravens was the most improved and encouraging facets of the Lions Defense and overall team. There's definitely a good opportunity to build on that performance in Chicago later today.

The Lions certainly need more sacks. There's been far too many near sacks, compared to actual sacks. More pressure is needed as well, though IMHO, the Lions pass rush has improved compared to last season. Charles Harris has been a good addition.

Lions pass defense surges into top 10 over the last 3 weeks

This ties into the Lions only giving up 16, 13, and 16 points in the last 3 games. The Lions Defense hasn't made the critical stop when needed the most the last two games. And the Offenses the Lions faced in November all have major limitations with their passing games. But at least the Lions Defense has made a considerable amount of progress in run Defense and Coverage. With overall only giving up 15 points per game in the last 3 games.

Two concerns regarding the Lions Run Defense heading into the Vikings game tomorrow:

1. John Penisini was added to the injury report today because of Illness. DT Bruce Hector, who had an impressive pre-season for the Lions in 2021, is a Practice Squad call up for the game. Penisini as a run defender will be difficult to replace. Hector would add more as a pass rusher than what Penisini provides.

2. Jalen Reeves-Maybin is out of the Vikings game because of the shoulder injury he suffered vs. the Bears on Thanksgiving Day. Tavante Beckett, who showed major potential in the summer, including on Special Teams, is a Practice Squad Call up for the game.

Lions defense makes push to 'lock the gates' with Steelers tie. For the most part, it did

If the University of Pittsburgh doesn't have a copyright on 'Lock the Gates', the Lions should use the phrase as part of a marketing campaign. This could help further build the Lions identity on the Defensive Side of the ball, which could eventually help attract Free Agent Defensive players.
