PFT’s NFL Week Three 2021 picks
Ravens (-7.5) at Lions
MDS’s take: This game will be closer than people are expecting, but in the end the Ravens will grind out a win in the fourth quarter. MDS’s pick: Ravens 27, Lions 24.
Florio’s take: The Ravens got a signature win on Sunday night against the Chiefs. The worst thing they could do is to fall flat on their faces the following week. Florio’s pick: Ravens 34, Lions `14.

Lions vs. Ravens Injury info: Game # 3 ( 2021 )

The difficulty of containing the Ravens running game is substantially even greater, if the strategy of playing 2 Deep Safeties most of the time the other night in GB, is used against Baltimore. I think it will be necessary to put a Safety at or near the box against the Ravens frequently. Even with the Lions losing CBs Jeff Okudah and Ifeatu Melifonwu in consecutive games.

Lions OC Anthony Lynn prepping for the Ravens 'zero blitz' defense
………….
Statistically, the Ravens Pass Defense doesn't rank favorably after two games. A major part of why is they played in an OT game ( loss at the LV Raiders ) and against the Patrick Mahomes led Chiefs ). But when it comes to physicality and aggression the Ravens Defense is much like they have been for the vast majority if their 26 season history. The Ravens Defense takes no prisoners. The Lions need to make them pay for their aggression. Screens, traps, and draws are some other ways to try to combat the Ravens aggressiveness on D.

Looking ahead: Detroit Lions draw Lamar Jackson and Baltimore’s potent rushing attack in Week 3
……….
The first interception by Lamar Jackson against the Chiefs ( which was returned for a TD ) occured very early in the game, as a result of Sammy Watkins slipping. . This game is an extraordinary difficult challenge for the Lions Defense and hence the overall team. Even with the Ravens injury situation on Offense, the impact that Lamar Jackson has on games is NFL MVP caliber. Trey Flowers is listed as Questionable fir the game, despite not Practicing. Even if Flowers were relatively healthy, the Lions Defensive task would be very difficult.
The Lions Offense needs to shorten the game. Long drives that result in TDs would be ideal.
The Lions Special Teams need to be on top of their game in all phases.

Detroit News predictions: Lions vs. Ravens
…………
The uncertainty of whether Trey Flowers will be able to play in this game and to what extent he will be limited if he does play, adds to the difficulty of predicting the outcome of this game. The Ravens four player loses on their Defensive Front 7 ( including 3 starters ) because of NFL COVID-19 policy, certainly increases the Lions chances of pulling off an upset win.

Five things to watch: Ravens at Lions
……….
he Lions were '-2 in takeaways vs. turnovers in tbe loss in GB to the Packers. The fumbled snap was the more impactful play, as it occurred in Lions territory when the score was still 28-17. The interception was late in the game when the Lions were in desperation mode.
For the Lions to pull off an upset win over the Ravens, at the very least the Lions will very likely need to have + 1 takeaways vs. turnovers. With Lions Special Teams at least breaking even overall.

Detroit News scouting report: Lions vs. Ravens September 24, 2021 …...….
With OLBs Justin Houston and Jaylon Ferguson on the Ravens COVID-19 list, Odale Owen, Thys Bowser, and former Bear Pernell McPhee will likely be the primary trio edge players for the Ravens Front 7 on Defense. That's a good 3-some to have when losing 2 talented players from the unit for the game.
I think the Ravens greater issue to overcome is in their interior of their Defensive Line. With the losses of Brandon Williams and Justin Madubuike ( COVID-19 list ), with Derek Wolfe out with Back and Hip injuries, Calais Campbell is the only remaining starting caliber ( unless proven otherwise ) interior Defensive Lineman available for the Ravens.

5 burning questions ahead of Ravens-Lions in Week 3
………..
The Lions run Defense on a per carry average basis ( 3.8 ) is better than I thought was the case. Especially, with the Lions lining up both Safeties far from the box most of the time against the Packers. The latter part of the game was the exception for the most part, when the Packers were up by 18.
