10 potential 2nd round picks for the Lions
......
This thread relates to the following thread and the threads in that discussion:
Round 1: T Penei Sewell ( Oregon ) : Pick # 7 ( 2021 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1029/round-penei-sewell-oregon-pick
This article was written last week, which was well before the conclusion of Round 1.
Terrace Marshall Jr. doesn't appear to be a Dan Campbell type of player. I would be surprised if the Lions draft him in any spot of Round 2. I expect Marshall to be drafted in Round 2 by another team because of his upside potential as a WR.
As a Slot WR, Elijah Moore would be a pretty good option for the Lions with pick # 41.
I don't think the Lions should serious consider drafting Nick Bolton until pick # 101, the Lions second 3rd Round pick. The NFL has changed greatly in the last 20 + years. It's become much more of a passing league, which is doesn't suit Bolton's skill set well.
Richie Grant would likely be well worth considering with pick # 41. I'm not optimistic that the Lions will get enough value with either 3rd Round pick, if the team drafts a Safety in Round 3.
Dillon Radunz wouldn't provide enough value because of the Lions Offensive Tackle situation following the selection of Penei Sewell with pick # 7.Trevon Moehrig would be amongst my top preferences for the Lions, if he's available at # 41. I thought he was going to be drafted in Round 1. Because the Lions brass might decide that Trey Flowers is too expensive ( salary cap wise ) to keep beyond the 2021 season, Carlos Basham Jr. is worth considering as the 2nd Round moves on. Maybe even at # 41, depending on which other players are available. Jamin Davis was drafted by the WFT with pick # 19. Joe Tryon was drafted by the Bucs with pick # 32. It didn't take long for them to turn in the draft card. Kadarius Toney was drafted by the Giants with pick # 20, after they traded down from pick # 11, with the Bears.

Detroit Lions' Day 2 NFL targets: 15 players to consider; plenty of LBs and WRs
.........
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah would make plenty of sense for the Lions at # "41. The same regarding Azeez Ojulari, if the Lions are satisfied with his medical situation. I didn't expect either player to be available at the conclusion of Round 1.
It's subjective who the best remaining WR is. Dyami Brown and Rondale Moore are also still available. In the case of Rondale Moore, he will that much more need to satisfy the Lions medically. But all 3 WRs would be tempting at # 41.
Tutu Atwell would be worth considering with pick # 72, in Round 3, if available. Chances are, he would make more sense if the Lions trade down from pick # 72 or if he's available with pick # 101 in the latter part of Round 3. So much depends on the Lions other options and if the Lions address WR in Round 2. The main concern with Atwell is he only weighs 165 pounds.
Anthony Schwartz might be worth considering with pick # 101. His lack of strength and route running are concerning.
Jabril Cox might be worth considering at pick # 41. In a sizable trade down or at # 74, he would probably be amongst the Lions top options if still available.
Jevon Holland probably makes more sense in a relatively small trade down from pick # 41 than in the # 41 spot.
Asanta Samuel Jr. would be a good value pick if he lasts to pick # 41. Because Samuel is only 5'-10", slot CB probably will become the best position to use him in the NFL.
I'm not aware at this time of the specifics of the off the field concerns Dave Birkett mentioned regarding Christian Barmore. Those that expected Barmore to be available after Round 1 were proven correct. With the shortage of high quality DT prospects in this draft, I thought Barmore had a good chance to go in Round 1. If the Lions brass is comfortable with Barmore moving forward from a character standpoint, he would be at or near the top of my preferred options for the Lions at # 41 ( if available ).

2021 NFL draft: Running through the 20 best fits for the Detroit Lions on Day 2
.......
I don't think Davis Mills has enough upside for the Lions to invest a 2nd or 3rd Round Pick in him.
Javonte Williams probably will be drafted in Round 2. If Williams lasts to pick # 74, in Round 3, I would be comfortable if the Lions draft him despite the Lions having a strong 1-2 punch at RB, and Kerryon Johnson at least being a viable 3rd Down option because of his blitz protection and receiving skills.
Alim McNeill probably makes sense in a trade down from pick # 41. Good value player with pick # 72, in Round 3.
Michael Carter could be a viable option with pick # 101, in the latter part of Round 3.
If Landon Dickerson is available with pick # 41, trading down easily could be the Lions best option.
Kelvin Joseph has the ability to warrant being a good option with pick # 41. Character is the main question mark with him. My gut feeling is he would be too risky at # 41.
Quinn Meinerz would warrant being pick # 72 under many scenarios. Ideally though, there are better options at other position units that the Lions haven't addressed yet in this draft.
Pat Freiermuth has 2nd Round talent. He might be too good of a prospect to pass up if he last to pick # 72.
Tommy Tremble might be worth considering, if available at pick # 101. With pick # 112 in the early part of Round 2, Tremble would probably be amongst the best options for the Lions, if still available.
Chazz Surratt would probably be at or near the top of my Lions preference list, if he's available at # 72 and the Lions haven't drafted an off the ball LB earlier. Even trading down from pick # 41 and ending up with Surratt probably would be a good draft outcome .If the Lions drafted him at # 41, I would understand the decision and likely become comfortable with it. Surratt is a playmaker, which is something the Lions need.
Because the Lions only have 6 overall picks in this draft, without a 6th or 7th Round pick, I hope Brad Holmes ends up making at least one trade down deal by the time the Lions scheduled 5th Round pick is completed. My guess is Holmes will do so.

2021 Day 2 NFL Mock Draft: Kyle Trask lands in NFC East, Panthers pick left tackle for Sam Darnold
........
Elijah Moore would be a good option at # 41 for the Lions under this scenario.
I probably would prefer Trevon Moehrig, because it will be more difficult to get a value quality combination at Safety in Round 3 than at WR.
Richie Grant, Rondale Moore, and Dyami Brown would be the other players that went after pick # 41 in Round 2 of this Mock Draft that I hope the Lions end up with if the Lions don't trade down.
I think the Lions can do better with pick # 72 than do with DE Osa Odighizuwa. Alim McNeill, Chazz Surratt, and Jabril Cox jump out as more preferred options.
Kenneth Gainwell at # 101 would be a good value pick, even though the Lions have a good RB situation.

NFL Day 2 Mock Draft
....
like Elijah Moore is the consensus pick for the Lions at # 41.
Richie Grant, Asante Samuel, Dyami Brown, and Rondale Moore would be my other preferred Lions options that went later in Round 2, if Lions keep pick # 41.
Carlos Basham Jr. at # 72 would be amongst my preferred options if the Lions don't address the Defensive Line prior to this point.
Jevon Holland, Alim McNeill, D'Wayne Eskridge, and Andre Cisco would also be players be appealing at # 72.
Nico Collins isn't a good enough fit with Jared Goff as Lions at QB to take at # 101.
The last three players mentioned in this Mock Draft look like better options.

12 players who make sense for Lions on Day 2 of the NFL Draft
.......
I don' t think Elijah Molden is going to be available when Round 3 begins. I projected Molden going to the LA Rams with pick # 57. Because I see Molden as a very good fit for the Rams, I believe Brad Holmes would have plenty of interest in Molden. Pick # 41 is probably too early for Molden. But in a trade down of at least a few spots in the draft, Molden would be well worth the Lions considering.
Baltimore took an edge rusher ( Jayson Oweh )with pick # 31, the primary trade resource they received from Kansas City in the Orlando Brown Jr. trade.
Joseph Ossai with pick # 41 probably will be well worth considering.
I hope the Lions don't consider Jamar Johnson until the earliest, pick # 101.
Amari Rodgers would probably be a good option if the Lions traded down from pick # 72 to the middle of Round 3 or lower. He's more quick than fast.
Milton Williams' speed, quickness ,movement skills and strength are appealing. His short arms and lack of enough bulk for the interior are drawbacks. If he's available at # 101, he probably would be worth considering.
