Packers at Lions

MDS’s take: There’s a part of me that thinks the Lions may just be primed to pull an upset here, but a bigger part of me that says they’re just too beaten up to win.
MDS’s pick: Packers 21, Lions 20.

Florio’s take: The Packers have a bye week, and possibly the No. 1 seed, in sight. The Lions don’t have much to put in their way.
Florio’s pick: Packers 24, Lions 10.

The Lions are probably too beaten up to win this game. Unless the Packers injury situation proves to be highly problematic, which likely won't be the case, I think the Packers will win this game comfortably. A score along the lines of 31-13 is what I currently have in mind. It's realistically possible the score will look closer than the outcome of the game because of a late Lions TD when the Packers are using a form of a prevent Defense strategy.

Detroit Lions sit as double-digit underdogs for Week 17 game with Green Bay Packers

In addition to the situations with the respective teams on the field, I'm anticipating at least 30 % of the fans in attendance at the game being Packers fans. It wouldn't surprise me if the % is much higher. This might feel like a version of an LA Chargers 'home' game.

Not all of Devonte Adams' catches in the game in Detroit last season were against Darius Slay.

The Packers Defense is legit. Za'Darius Smith gave the Lions plenty of problems in the Packers comeback win over the Lions in October and was near unblockable in Minnesota on MNF earlier this week. Kenny Clark is one of the best all around interior Defensive Lineman in the game. Clark was also dominate in the Packers win over the Vikings that secured Green Bay the NFC North Title.

I'm far from convinced the Lions have the Run Game edge over the Packers Run Defense.

Getting through this game without any injuries that will affect off-season participation is more important than anything else that comes out of this game for the Lions. The shoulder injury to Jahlani Tavai in Denver last Sunday was by far the worst part of the game for the Lions.

Za’Darius Smith was lined up in at least 3 spots in the Green Bay win at Minnesota. Smith was on both edges and in the A Gap. Smith could easily take over this game, much like he did 5 nights ago against the Vikings.
