Connor Cook is out, David Fales is in at quarterback for Detroit
Lions cut Connor Cook, sign David Fales
……….
This thread is a continuation of the following thread:
Lions sign QB Connor Cook (ex.Raiders) to a Futures Contract
It's evident now that Connor Cook isn't even a viable option as an NFL 3rd string QB, let alone a greater role. It's best that the Lions moved on before the final 4 OTAs. At least David Fales was able to get started learning the Lions Offense and working on his timing with other Lions Offensive players.
David Fales doesn't have Cook's physical talent. But he's better suited to be an NFL backup QB than Cook.
The likely outcome is Fales will be released before the start of the regular season. Yet, by being with the Lions through training camp and the pre-season, he could be a viable option for the Lions during the regular season, if a significant injury at QB occurs.

How new Detroit Lions QB David Fales plans to win backup job
...............
David Fales likely will see plenty of action in the 1st and 4th pre-season games. He has a major uphill battle to beat out Tom Savage for the Lions # 2 QB position because of Savage's history with QB Coach Sean Ryan and Savage having much more practice and learning time with the Lions this Spring.

QB David Fales gives Lions sputtering offense a lift
………………..
This thread relates to the following thread:
Texans 30, Lions 23: Pre-season Game # 2 2019 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/336/texans-lions-season-game-2019?page=1&scrollTo=1300
David Fales didn't get enough help on the Lions 2nd to last drive last night. Both Isaac Nauta and Jerome Cunningham should have caught passes that they didn't secure.
Though I still have doubts David Fales can effectively handle a # 2 QB job, he certainly exceeded my expectations at Houston. Fales looked more comfortable than vs. New England. His margin of error to be the Lions # 2 QB is low. Fales must perform at least as well as last night, in the final two pre-season games, to realistically remain in the Lions roster spot mix.
