This is an example of why I was in a small minority of Lions fans, and those that cover the Lions combined, that I thought last off-season the Lions should have exercised the 5th Year Option on Jarrad Davis.
The fact that Jarrad Davis played much better in games he was used for MUCH less snaps on Defense leads me to believe that Davis ( like many other Lions Defensive players ) struggled with the complexity of Matt Patricia's Defensive system.
In addition, Jarrad Davis did a very good job on Special Teams Coverage in the 2020 season. This after not being used much, if at all on Special Teams Coverage, in his previous seasons with the Lions.
I hope that the info in this article proves incorrect and the Lions end up re-signing Davis at a price that's much less than $ 6 To $ 7 million a year. However, if that's not the case, then it would better for the Lions if Davis signs a multi-year contract at a higher number per season. This would improve the Lions Compensatory Pick Situation for the 2022 Draft.
