Aaron Glenn is a Defensive Coordinator choice that makes plenty of sense for the Lions. Dan Campbell is very familiar with Glenn. In addition to playing under Bill Parcels with the Jets and Cowboys, as a rookie with the Jets, Glenn played under Pete Carroll. The latter was a DB Coach and Defensive Coordinator in the NFL, before becoming Jets HC. Glenn also worked under Sean Payton in recent seasons. The Jets interviewed Glenn for their HC opening, before ultimately hiring 49ers DC Robert Saleh.

Two thoughts immediately come to mind:

1. Dan Campbell is off to a strong start as Lions HC, from a result / goal standpoint. From my point of view, Dan Campbell was impressive in his introductory press conference as Lions HC. More importantly, Campbell was able to convince Aaron Glenn, whose services were in demand, to become the Lions Defensive Coordinator.

2. Campbell said more at this press conference from a details / info standpoint than Matt Patricia said in his entire time as Lions HC.

I think Aaron Glenn is on a path to be an NFL HC in the next few seasons. His leadership
skills, communication skills, seeing the bigger picture, he's talent focused ( not system focused ) and emphasis on putting players in position to play fast and get positive results, are all positives about Glenn as a coach.

Unlike the with the Lions Offense, Dan Campbell replaced the entire 2020 Lions Defensive Coaching Staff. I'm optimistic the Lions will be noticeably more aggressive in the Front 7 than in Matt Patricia's 43 combined games as Lions HC.

It's already evident that Aaron Glenn is getting through to Defensive Backs on the Lions that the team is counting on. Glenn might only be with the Lions one or two seasons. But his impact for the could easily last in the many years after that.

Prior to this article, the assumption by most people was at the very least, Will Harris was the most likely Lions Defensive player to not where he needed to be on the 4th and 19 play.

A question that comes to mind is which Lions Defender didn't effectively communicate the responsibilities of Bobby Price on the play?

I respectfully disagree with Aaron Glenn, in that IMHO, I think the 3 man pass rush strategy on the 4th and 19 play, was a mistake. Too much can go wrong when giving Lamar Jackson too much time to find an open receiver. This is a strategy that backfired against former Lions DC Teryl Austin, against Aaron Rodgers, in Dec. 2015. Rodgers also took advantage of the 49ers 3 man rush this past Sunday Night, getting the Packers into eventual Game Winning FG range with 37 seconds remaining and No Timeouts.

If the Lions Defense is making plenty of progress across the board, later in the season, compared to now, Aaron Glenn will likely be setting the stage of becoming an NFL HC either in 2022 or in 2023.

With the very costly 2nd consecutive timeout called, to say the least, it's concerning that Will Harris didn't understand his assignment. I agree with Aaron Glenn that it's the coaches fault in this type of situation. I'm glad under the circumstance of the 2nd consecutive timeout, play call, and result that Glenn took responsibility. Ultimately, Dan Campbell is most responsible for what took place

For Aaron Glenn to get an NFL HC job this winter, with the Lions coming off a 2 or 3 win season, it will take an NFL Owner with tremendous vision and courage to hire Glenn as HC in the coming weeks. Glenn might get one or more NFL HC interviews this winter. But it's highly likely that he won't get an NFL HC opportunity from another team until at least next winter.
