Lions' next opponent: Panthers growing frustrated over recurring problems
.........
This article was written before the report that it's likely Christian McCaffrey won't be able to play in this game because of his shoulder injury.
I'm not counting on the Lions generating a pass rush like the Bucs did against the Panthers. That's an understatement.
The Panthers will almost certainly miss the playoffs and finish under .500. It's evident though that they are desperate for a win. They are currently slight favorites ( between 1.5 and 2.5 points ) to beat the Lions. Which under the circumstance of the Lions season is good news. The Lions need a great week of practice and preparation. With urgency and focus primary Lions themes in the game. The Panthers most recent two 1st Round Picks, DE Brian Burns and DT Derrick Brown look like foundation pieces. Burns, when matched up against Taylor Decker, is a prime matchup.

The Panthers drafted nothing but defensive players in the 2020 draft. They are 31st in sack and have an inexperienced secondary ... Stafford is already rubbing his hands

The huge upside potential the Panthers have on their Defensive Line is an under the radar NFL story. Their Defense will go through immense growing pains this season. Yet, with DEs Brian Burns and Yetur Gross-Matos, and DT Derrick Brown, they have a foundation up front on Defense that could very realistically cause havoc in the NFC in coming seasons.

NFL Week 11 picks
Lions (+1.5) at Panthers
MDS’s take: The Lions are sneaking into the NFC playoff discussion, and they’ll catch a break against a banged-up Panthers team.
MDS’s pick: Lions 24, Panthers 16.
Florio’s take: Carolina plays better than their 3-7 record would suggest. The Lions often play worse than 4-5 implies. With Teddy Bridgewater on track to play, the Panthers should break their losing streak and make a run at escaping the NFC South basement.
Florio’s pick: Panthers 24, Lions 20.

Unless one of the starting QBs prior to the designation of Game Day Inactives is ruled out for the game, I don't think there will anything close to a consensus on predictions, on the outcome of the game.

Detroit News scouting report: Lions at Panthers
..........
Jeremy Chinn is more of a hybrid DB/ LB. He has major upside potential and could impact tomorrow's game.
T.J. Hockenson was pick # 8 in 2019. The Panthers were fortunate Brian Burns lasted to pick # 16 of that draft.
The Panthers WR trio of D.J. Moore, Robbie Anderson, and Curtis Samuel collectively and individually are a concern as opposition for the Lions. Each has unique skills. Samuel is a jack of all trades type. He probably will get some touches as a rusher. Anderson is mostly a vertical threat. Moore is more of a complete WR than Anderson.

Detroit Lions vs. Carolina Panthers: Dave Birkett's scouting report, prediction
...........
D.J. Moore is a deep threat. He's also dangerous after the catch, which contributes greatly to his high overall yards per catch.
Robbie Anderson's production is based mostly because of his vertical speed. Including, underneath production as a result.
Brian Burns gets snaps on the Right Side of the Panthers Defense, in addition to the snaps he gets on the Left Side.
If Teddy Bridgewater plays, his mobility likely will be limited because of the knee injury he's dealing with.
It's very likely that the Lions, in preparation of this game, have looked at game tapes of P. J. Walker in the XFL. Walker is an x-factor.

Lions (4-5) at Panthers (3-7)
Lions (4-5) at Panthers (3-7) 1 p.m. ET | Fox Matchup rating: 14.5 | Spread: DET -2.5 (48)
What to watch for: Will either team get enough pressure on the quarterback to disrupt the other's offense, particularly the Lions since there's some question on whom Carolina might start at quarterback? Even if Teddy Bridgewater plays, his sprained knee might limit his mobility. Neither team has been very good at producing sacks. The Panthers rank 27th in the league with 11, and the Lions are 25th with 13. -- David Newton
Bold prediction: Lions running back Adrian Peterson will have 75 yards rushing and a touchdown in a vintage outing against a Carolina run defense allowing 124.5 yards per game and 4.77 yards per carry. With D'Andre Swift potentially missing this one, Peterson will get some workload help from Kerryon Johnson and Jamal Agnew out of the backfield. -- Michael Rothstein
Stat to know: Detroit wide receiver Marvin Jones has a receiving TD in three straight games, tied for the longest streak of his career (Weeks 6-8 of 2013). He is fresh off an eight-catch, 96-yard receiving day versus Washington in Week 10.
Injuries: Lions | Panthers
What to know for fantasy: No defense is allowing more receiving yards per game to running backs than the Lions (53.7), and Panthers running back Mike Davis has hauled in 87% of his targets this season. Fun fact: There has yet to be a game this season in which multiple Davis targets hit the ground. See Week 11 rankings.
Betting nugget: Carolina is 1-4 ATS at home this season. Read more.
Rothstein's pick: Lions 27, Panthers 23 Newton's pick: Lions 30, Panthers 23 FPI prediction: CAR, 51.7% (by an average of 0.6 points)
.........
Jonathan Williams probably will get some snaps on Offense in this game. If Adrian Peterson and / or Kerryon Johnson aren't effective enough with their rushing carries, Williams could become the Lions primary runner the rest of the game. .

..........
The Lions brass must be confident that Matthew Stafford will get through this game. Otherwise, David Blough would be active.
I'm glad that Jarrad Davis is active. The Lions must generate a more consistent pass rush.

I can't recall a situation in which the decision of whether a QB would be active for an NFL game had as many twists and turns.
I think Matt Rhule made the right decision for Teddy Bridgewater and the Panthers. The risk of Bridgewater playing was greater than a potential reward for a Panthers team that's 3-7.

Behind Enemy Lines for Week 11 with Panthers Wire
.....
Tahir Whitehead is likely close to the end of his NFL playing career. To Whitehead's credit, he's been in the NFL for 9 seasons. Including, his first 6 with the Lions. He has remained a starter in his first season with the Panthers.
