If the Lions coaches decide that Desmond Trufant will shadow a Panthers WR ( I think there's a good chance of this happening ), I'm anticipating it will be against D.J. Moore. I believe Moore is the Panthers most complete WR and an underrated WR.
The Lions currently have around $ 12.6 in salary cap space remaining for the 2020 season. The salary cap dollars a team doesn't use in the current season are applied to the following season. Barring one or more contract extensions, the Lions should have at least $ 10 million from the 2020 Salary Cap added to the team's 2021 salary cap dollars available.
Nick Williams. Christian Jones, and Justin Coleman probably will also be asked to restructure their contracts downward for the 2021 season. Jesse James and Joe Dahl could easily be in that category as well.

........
The injury to Matthew Stafford on that play could still potentially end up derailing the Lions remaining playoff hopes.

Detroit Lions' grades: Offense shines, but coaching hiccups helped Washington come back
.......
The 4th and 4 situation was on the drive in which Matthew Stafford injured his thumb on the 2nd play of the drive. Stafford threw his worst pass of the day on the 3rd Down play prior to the 4th and 4 situation. It was necessary for the Lions to punt. Jack Fox and the Lions Punt Coverage Team ended up pinning the WFT at their only 7 yard line.
The play call decision that I had the greatest issue with was the 1st Down play action bootleg at the WFT 20 yard line with 2:56 remaining in the 4th QTR with the game tied at 24-24. The WFT called a timeout after the previous play. When considering the enormous struggles the Lions Defense had on the previous 3 WFT possessions and the amount of time the Lions Defense was on the field in the game, it was imperative for the clock to continue to move after the 1st Down play ( or WFT calling their 2nd timeout ). Instead, an incomplete pass resulted. The Lions gained 1 yard on the 2nd down play ( D'Andre Swift run ). That led to a time out. But because of the 1st Down incomplete pass, it was 3rd and 9. Another incomplete pass resulted on a designed bootleg. Only forcing the WFT to call one time out on that series of downs AND not getting a 1st Down put the Lions at much higher risk to lose the game. The added time actually ended up helping the Lions win the game. But the chances of a loss were noticeably higher because of the lack of a failure to use complementary football strategy to aid the Lions Defense.

Thanks for these cap infos. Jesse James and Joe Dahl don't bring much to the table.
Agree with you on the playcalling, smarter clock decisions would have led to a better game control in the endgame.

My pleasure.
One thing I noticed is the information regarding the Lions remaining salary cap dollars differs to some extent when looking at different NFL Salary Cap websites. The approximate $ 12.6 million is on the low side.
Injuries have adversely affected Joe Dahl. With Dahl not on the injury reports leading up to today's game at Carolina, it will be interesting to see if he's back in the starting lineup.
