I'm happy with Matt Patricia to bring back John Bonamego back to the Lions. His connections with the Lions other 2 Coordinators is certainly an added plus.

A huge reason for the low ranking on Special Teams for the Lions in the 2014 regular season was the enormous struggles of the Lions various Kickers in the first 5 combined games that season. Things got much better after the Lions signed Matt Prater, after he was let go by the Broncos.


John Bonamego was the Central Michigan HC for 4 seasons.

How much does John Bonamego need to fix on Lions special teams?

Matt Prater didn't miss a PAT during the 2018. However, a bad snap by Don Muhlbach cost the Lions a PAT at Buffalo. That one point the Lions didn't get was enormous in what was a Bills 14-13 win.


The Lions need to cut down on penalties on returns. The loss of field position was something the Lions weren't good enough to overcome more often than not.

For the Lions to at least get to the playoffs in the 2019 season, the Special Teams are very likely going to have to be an asset for the overall team.
