……………
A Practice Squad opportunity is the very likely initial outcome if the Lions sign Tyler Gauthier.

Detroit Lions will attended Colin Kaepernick workout on Saturday
………..
The combination of the distraction signing Colin Kaepernick would cause the Lions ( including a high vocal divide in the fan base ) and Kaepernick not playing since the 2016 season makes it a no brainer from my point of view for the Lions NOT signing him.
To put the distraction component in perspective, there are people who couldn't name more than 2 current NFL players that know who Colin Kaepernick is.

If Detroit Lions sign Colin Kaepernick, they would be taking a chance, and making a stance
……………….
Even from a pure football standpoint, it makes practically no sense for the Lions to sign Colin Kaepernick. By the time he's ready to play in a game, it will be December. The Lions will likely be eliminated from playoff contention by then or one game away from elimination. With Kaepernick being 33 next year, he's at most a temporary fix as a backup QB behind Matthew Stafford. The Lions need longer term solutions in that role.
