Calvin Johnson to Detroit Lions: 'Put that money back in my pocket'
……
Because it's in essence Bob Quinn's call ( because of salary cap ramifications ) whether the Lions will give Calvin Johnson back the portion of the signing bonus they collected from him in 2016, Rod Wood doesn't seem significant in the Lions-Calvin Johnson equation.

Detroit Lions' path should be clear: Just give Calvin Johnson back the money
……...……..
If it just involved giving Calvin Johnson back the money, this very likely never would have been an issue in the first place. The reason the Lions asked for the money back in 2016 was for salary cap relief.
The Lions would lose a draft pick(s) and or salary cap space ( far greater than $1.1 million) if the Lions gave Calvin Johnson the money back under the table and the NFL was able to prove this. It's not a viable option. If the Lions decide to give Calvin the money back, it needs to be public knowledge. Knowing that the Lions will take a $ 1.1 million salary cap hit.
