Just like that, Jahlani Tavai becomes one of the Lions’ most important players

Bills 24, Lions 20: Pre-season Game # 3 : ( 2019 )

There's no way getting around that the loss of Jarrad Davis for a likely substantial portion of the season is a major setback for the Lions.
The good news in addition to Davis likely returning to game action sometime this season is Jahlani Tavai is progressing well. Tavai looks like he can be an asset against the run early in the regular season. Tavai has performed better in the pre-season than I thought would be the case. The game doesn't seem to big ( figuratively speaking ) for him.
Another positive is Jalen Reeves-Maybin has been a bright spot in all 3 Lions pre-season games.
I'm not discounting the loss of Jarrad Davis. But the Lions seem better equipped to handle the loss of Davis than the loss of Frank Ragnow. This is assuming Ragnow will be out one or more regular season games.

Lions preach patience with Jahlani Tavai, keep him away from 'wolves'
……………….
There's no question that a collective effort at LB for the Lions will be necessary to help compensate for the loss of Jarrad Davis. Jahlani Tavai will likely be used in specific roles that will help him use his physical skills to the Lions advantage. Limiting what he will need to do from a mental standpoint as much as realistically possible.

Jahlani Tavai becomes first Lions linebacker to register sack in debut since 1987
………….
The sack by Thomas Boyd in 1987 was during the NFL Strike. The NFL used replacement players for the 3 games that the NFL players that remained on strike didn't participate in.
I thought the game in Arizona was a pretty good start to Jahlani Tavai's NFL career with the Lions. I understand and appreciate Tavai's enthusiasm. Yet, it should be in context that tbe Lions were only able to secure a tie after leading by 18 points. T.J. Hockenson had an impactful performance, yet what stood out about his comments was the Lions didn't win the game.

Where are all the Jahlani Tavai haters at now?

It's good to see Jahlani Tavai view the Lions team accomplishment ( win ) yesterday above individual performance.
Even with the expected return of Jarrad Davis to game action in the next 1 to 3 games, Tavai is very likely going to have one or more roles on Defense for the Lions. The Lions should have more skill and versatility at LB at that point than has been the case in any of the previous games since Matt Patricia became Lions HC in February, 2017.

Expect more of Lions’ rookie LB Jahlani Tavai after bye week
……………..
The good news from an injury standpoint is the Lions are currently relatively healthy at LB. Along with the Offensive Line, this is the only position unit on either side of the ball that this is the case. At this point in time, the Lions can bring along Jahlani Tavai at a pace the coaches are comfortable with.
