Knowing that James Houston has differential pass rush ability. it's imperative that he becomes much more consistent with assignments and that he becomes a more diverse pass rusher. Houston's lack of consistency could end up costing him his roster spot with the Lions and the Lions 2nd most talented pass rusher, inly behind Aidan Hutchinson.

This is a good decision. The Lions need a version of James Houston who's a difference maker as an Edge Pass Rusher. That version of Houston by itself justifies him being on the Lions 53 man roster.

At this time, Houston appears to be on the Lions roster bubble. He needs to get relatively healthy and step up as an Edge Rusher in the pre-season.

In addition to the sack by James Houston, he also made his presence felt on at least one more play.

Helping Houston's chances to survive the cutdown to 53 is that he wasn't in the game on Defense in 4th QTR. I don't recall seeing him in the game even in the 3rd QTR.

The Lions 2 Practice Squad elevations for the Bucs game are WRs Tom Kennedy and Tim Patrick. Hence, it's highly likely that James Houston will get plenty of opportunities at DE vs. the Bucs. With the Bucs starting RT Luke Goedeke out with a concussion, Houston needs to get the best of T Justin Skule, who is expected to replace Goedeke, when matched up against him.

Derrick Barnes suffered the knee injury in Week # 3, in the game at Arizona, that landed him on IR.

If James Houston is going to get his playing career with the Lions back in the right direction, it needs to happen soon. Maybe, even in the upcoming game at Minnesota. I'm not optimistic regarding Houston becoming the impact pass rusher he was in the latter part of his rookie (2022) season.
