Some of my thoughts about the Lions 2024 Season Schedule are as follows:
The first 2 games of the Lions schedule are at home against the two teams the Lions defeated in the 2023 season playoffs. The SNF opener vs. the LA Rams is the largest stage the Lions have been on in a home game in a season opener since the 1971 MNF season opener vs. the Vikings. In those days, MNF was considered the spotlight game of the week in the NFL. Now it's SNF, with the exception of the Thursday Night NFL Season Opener.
The Lions bye is very early (Week # 5). The one positive that comes to mind is the Lions won't have a short week, following the MNF Week # 4 game vs. Seattle.
After the bye, the Lions are on the road for 4 out of 5 games. Considering the opponents, this is an especially challenge stretch of the season.
The Lions have a 3 game home stand, beginning on Thanksgiving Day.
The only game that could realistically be a winter type weather game is the game in Chicago on December 22.
The Lions playing at San Francisco on MNF, in the 2nd to last game of the regular season is a huge concern, both in terms of the 49ers being the defending NFC Champions and the Lions being on a short week for the regular season finale vs. Minnesota. It remains to be seen what the stakes are for the Lions and Vikings for the season finale.
Realistically, my expectation for the Lions is between 10 and 12 wins in the regular season. The Lions are a better team on paper at this point in time, than in the 2023 season. But the Lions schedule for the 2024 season is much more difficult on paper at this point in time than the Lions 2023 season schedule.
