PFT’s Super Wild Card 2023 picks, Florio vs. Simms
Rams at Lions (-3)
Same thinking, same projected score. Matthew Stafford goes back to Detroit and steals a win.
Florio: Rams, 30-27.
Simms: Rams, 30-27.
.........
The Lions won't lack motivation to win this game.

8 connections between the Rams and Lions in this wild-card matchup
.........
In addition, Brad Holmes and Ray Agnew were in the Rams Organization in the Scouting Department. Agnew also played for the St. Louis Rams.
Aubrey Pleasant was fired by Dan Campbell following the Dolphins comeback win over the Lions in the 2022 season, in which the Lions fell to 1-6. Since then, the Lions are 20-7. While I thought Coach Campbell made a major mistake when he fired Pleasant, the decision turned out to be the right one for the Lions.
Zac Robinson never played in a regular season game for the Lions.

4 keys to a Rams victory over the Lions
.......
If Sam LaPorta plays in this game, it might be best to limit his snaps in order for LaPorta to be effective in the 4th QTR and if there's OT.
Demarcus Robinson has stepped up big time during the LA Rams enormous turnaround in the 2nd half of the season. Robinson looks much more consistent than from his days with the Chiefs. The Lions have to account for a lot of LA Rams weapons on Offense, including Robinson. The Rams are going to get plenty of receptions. Limiting the damage when the ball is caught is critical for the Lions chances in this game.

Rams' 4 biggest causes for concern vs. Lions on Sunday
.........
Matthew Stafford has played the most games at QB in the history of Ford Field. But this is the first time that Stafford will have to deal with off the chart crowd noise as a QB in Ford Field. Stafford and the LA Rams have overcome crowd noise at Seattle in 2021 and in 2023. But I'm confident Stafford and co. haven't played in a louder crowd with the Rams than what's in-store tomorrow evening. If they are able to overcome the crowd noise, the Lions are in serious trouble. I'm optimistic though that the crowd noise will end up helping the Lions substantially.
The team that is more effective and efficient at running the ball will probably win this game.

6 big questions for Rams vs. Lions in the wild-card round
..........
Great assessment by Jeff Risdon of Matthew Stafford's time with the Lions.
Even factoring in the improvement of Josh Paschal, a higher caliber DE as a Pass Rusher, as a starter, is probably one of the Lions 3 greatest Defensive Needs for the 2024 season.

Rams unsurprisingly finish last in 2023 special teams rankings
.........
Surprisingly, the Lions finished as low as # 20 in Rick Gosselin's annual Special Teams rankings. The Lions Place Kicking very likely had an adverse affect on the Lions Ranking.
Having said this, the Lions finished ahead of the other 3 NFC North teams in Gosselin's Special Teams Rankings for the 2023 Regular Season.
The Lions uncertainty regarding the Punt Returner Situation (with Kalif Raymond out with a knee injury) has the potential to offset the Lions overall Special Teams Advantage over the LA Rams. Major concern.

Raheem Morris focused on helping Rams win, not head coaching interviews
..........
Raheem Morris did an outstanding job this season as LA Rams Defensive Coordinator. It's very impressive how well the Rams Defense played, when considered the youth/ lack of NFL experience on that side of the ball. The experience Morris gained with Atlanta as their WR Coach, Passing Game Coordinator, Assistant Head Coach, and Interim Head Coach should help him greatly if he gets another NFL HC opportunity.
Under Morris, in the Rams games that I have seen, he depends mostly on a 4 man pass rush, or a 5 man pass rush. With the zone blitz as a major part of his Defense. I can recall only once when I saw the Rams use a 6 man blitz.
