IMHO, the Panthers were a better team late last season, during the time span when they beat the Lions, than they are currently. Having said that, the Lions need to bring the same type of urgency that the Lions displayed in the first half of the win at Green Bay last Thursday Night.

Bryce Young is going through major growing pains as a rookie QB. Including, often holding on to the ball too long being an issue for him. While Young is a highly intelligent, hardworking player, his relative lack of NFL experience, combined with the Panthers playing without their preferred starting Guards, is a difficult situation for him and the overall Panthers team. This is greatly magnified in a loud road stadium.

Two seasons ago, the Lions were the last NFL team to get a win. The Panthers reached this point in the 2023 season earlier than the Lions did in the 2021 season. Desperation often sets in when a team is the only team without a win. Frank Reich had a history as Colts HC of rolling the dice, including on 4th Down plays. It can't be stressed enough that the Lions can't afford to take this game for granted before, or during, the game.

TV broadcast maps for Week 5 of NFL action

Chris Myers and Daryl Johnston were the announcers on the Minnesota-Carolina game last Sunday. IMHO, this should enhance the telecast of the Lions game against the Panthers. Daryl 'Moose' Johnston provided excellent insight on the QB play of Bryce Young during the Vikings-Panthers telecast.

Key matchups for the Lions against the Panthers in Week 5

Brian Burns has given Taylor Decker plenty of problems in the last two games the Lions and Panthers played. Both games were in Charlotte. The Panthers won both games, with the outcome not in doubt late in the game. The health of Decker is a key question going into this game. He might need help against Burns on a frequent basis.
With Adam Thielen often used in the slot, the loss of Brian Branch for this game is especially concerning.
I'm optimistic the Lions will have plenty of opportunities for sacks, if Bryce Young continues to hold the ball too long, on a frequent basis.

Even without Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Lions WRs collectively should be effective in this game, providing the Lions pass protection is able to neutralize Brian Burns and co.
