PFT’s 2023 Week 2 NFL picks, Florio vs. Simms
Seahawks at Lions (-5.5)
I was skeptical about Detroit before last Thursday. I am not skeptical now. It will be loud, it will be raucous, and the Seahawks might not be able to block Aidan Hutchinson.
Florio: Lions, 34-20.
Simms: Lions, 31-24.
................
Regardless of what team ends up winning the game, I'm confident that this will be a lower scoring game than the last two head-to-head Lions-Seahawks games. Especially, with the Seahawks injury situation at LT and RT, and with Lions LT Taylor Decker dealing with an ankle injury that could either sideline him or limit him vs. the Seahawks.

Bobby Wagner gave fiery speech to start Seahawks practice this week
.........
When Bobby Wagner suffered an injury in the Seahawks one-sided win over the Lions late in the 2021 season, it looked like he played in his final home game for the Seahawks.
Regardless of what transpires in the Lions game against the Seahawks two days from today, I'm glad to see Wagner back with the Seahawks. He's one of their all-time great players, who IMHO has already had a HOF caliber career. If the Seahawks do pull off an upset, which wouldn't surprise me (this is a dangerous team, though their Offensive Tackle situation could easily affect the game), Wagner's leadership would be a significant reason for the Seahawks winning.

Seahawks heading into Lions den environment in Week 2
............
As much as the Lions will miss the playing services of Taylor Decker, who is listed as Doubtful for the game, thankfully this game is in Detroit, not Seattle. As long as the Lions are at least competitive in this game, the Seahawks are going to be dealing with a VERY loud crowd when they have the ball.

4 Keys to a Lions victory against the Seahawks in Week 2
...........
The Seahawks WR trio of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Rookie 1st Round Selection Jaxon Smith-Njigba is probably the best WR trio the Lions will face all season and probably the top WR trio in the NFL. The Lions Secondary and overall Defense need to be in sync and playing at a high overall level to keep this trio from ruining the Lions home opener. The Lions can't let Geno Smith break contain, something the Lions failed at in the 48-45 loss to the Seahawks last season.
With Russell Wilson no longer with the Seahawks, Pete Carroll has put an emphasis on the Seahawks running game. As dangerous as the Seahawks WRs are, it all starts on Defense for the Lions in limiting Kenneth Walker and the overall Seahawks Running Game.

5 Lions who need to play well against the Seahawks
............
Regarding Charles Harris, I expressed the following:
Lions 21, Chiefs 20: Game # 1 ( 2023 )
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1887/lions-21-chiefs-game-2023
While Charles Harris and James Houston didn't play at or close to Aidan Hutchinson's level as pass rushers, Harris caused a holding penalty by LT Donovan Smith, on what became the Chiefs final possession of the game. Houston had some pressure off the edge. The Chiefs often used chip blockers to help their Tackles, especially against Hutch and Houston.
The Lions need both David Montomgery and Jahmyr Gibbs to make major positive contributions tomorrow against the Seahawks. In the case of Gibbs, big plays/ gains and Gibbs' preference as a big play threat, are needed.
Jared Goff must continue to protect the ball. Goff had one of his best games vs. Seattle last season. But the interception return for a TD by then rookie CB Tariq Woolen on the first possession of the 3rd QTR, was a play the Lions weren't able to overcome.
The Lions lined up Cam Sutton at LCB in Kansas City. If that's the case tomorrow vs. the Seahawks, it would be Jerry Jacobs going up against DK Metcalf, if the WR is lined up on the Offensive Left outside. As dangerous as Metcalf is over the top, the all around receiving skills of Tyler Lockett are as much of a concern on this end.

7 things to know about Seahawks, Lions going into Week 2 matchup
............
The Seahawks have had the Lions number in the 21st Century, including the last two seasons. I'm more concerned though about the current Seahawks team, even with their injury situation at LT. That much more, with the Seahawks coming off an unexpected loss at home to the rebuilding LA Rams, who were without WR Cooper Kupp (Short Term IR). I'm assuming the Seahawks will be laser focused for tomorrow's game in Detroit.

Seattle Times staff picks for Seahawks at Lions in Week 2
.............
These predictions were made before Taylor Decker didn't practice on Friday, was listed as Doubtful on Friday's Injury Report, and ruled out today.
The point spread of the game is down to 4 1/2. Decker being out probably was a significant factor in the point spread going down from 5 1/2 to 4 1/2.

Biggest key matchup for the Lions vs. Seahawks
............
The Lions have the personnel on the Defensive Line/ Edge to overcome the loss of Josh Paschal, who was placed yesterday on In-Season/ Short Term IR. My concern is if the Lions get another significant injury upfront on Defense. That's when the Lions have a far greater chance of being negatively impacted by the loss of Paschal.

Today’s @seahawks inactives: Devin Bush Jamal Adams Boye Mafe McClendon Curtis Charles Cross Ben Brown Mike Morris
........
The Seahawks being without Devin Bush and Boye Mafe, on top of their previous losses, makes it that much more difficult for them to pull off an upset on the road in Detroit.

Romeo Okwara and Chase Lucas are on the Game Day Roster for the Lions.
My prediction for the game is Lions 27, Seahawks 20.
