For Trinity Benson to survive the cutdown to 53, I think he's going to need a strong performance on Special Teams and as a WR, at Carolina tonight in the pre-season finale.
If Benson is released by the Lions before Tuesday's deadline to get down to 53 players, I think there's at least at minimum a 55 % chance he will clear waivers. If that happens, Benson likely will get very serious consideration for a Practice Squad opportunity with the Lions. If Benson is claimed off waivers, if released by the Lions, the Broncos, his former team, the Denver Broncos, are the most likely to claim him. They also could make a strong attempt to sign Benson to their Practice Squad if he clears waivers. The Broncos have been hit hard by injuries at WR this summer. So much could depend on whether their new HC, Sean Payton, wants Benson back in their fold. Broncos GM George Paton signed Benson to their Practice Squad during the 2022 season, before the Lions signed him off the Broncos P.S.
