USA TODAY projects Lions to win the NFC North for the 1st time
..............
Going into training camp, this is the first season since the NFC North came into existence in 2002 that the Lions are favorite to win the NFC North. An 11-6 record, with a Division Title, is a very realistic expectation for the Lions this season.

5 biggest fears for the 2023 Detroit Lions
............
The Lions depth situation at Offensive Tackle and whether the Lions have a WR on the current 53 man roster who opposing Defenses truly respect vertically, are at the top of my list of Lions concerns. Another is the difficulty of replacing Jahmyr Gibbs, if he's out with injury.
How the Lions handle expectations of being the favorite to win the NFL North and how the Lions respond, win or lose, following the games at Kansas City, and vs. Seattle, is a huge question mark??? The answer to this question will be one of the key factors in the outcome of the Lions season.

Every NFL team’s (potentially) fatal flaw
...........
Detroit Lions: The passing offense doesn’t come to pass The Lions finished on an 8-2 tear in 2022 and much of the credit goes to an offense that really gelled around QB Jared Goff operating OC Ben Johnson’s creative scheme. Amon-Ra St. Brown emerged as a Pro Bowl wideout, and the relatively healthy offensive line gave Goff time to consistently find the best option to attack the defense. It sure looks like the offense will remain great, but there are some moving parts that could slow it down. Opponents have had time to study Johnson’s offensive proclivities. The WR room lacks a truly proven commodity outside of St. Brown; Josh Reynolds and Kalif Raymond are good, but neither really scares defensive coordinators. Rookie TE Sam LaPorta and fellow rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs are going to be major parts of the passing offense, and it remains to be seen if either will be truly ready for an instant impact. Goff was masterful down the stretch, but he’s had trouble sustaining success in the past. Even with what looks to be the NFL’s most-improved secondary and a deep pass rush, the offense will likely have to outscore what some foes post against the Detroit defense. Can Goff & Co. keep it rolling?
– Jeff Risdon, Lions Wire
...............
It wouldn't surprise me if the Lions Defense is substantially better this season, building on the improvements from the combined last 10 games of last season. Especially, with a Revamped Secondary.
It also wouldn't surprise me if the Lions Offense isn't as good as last season, especially in the first combined 6 games without Jameson Williams.

PFT’s 2023 NFL season predictions
............
This is the first time I can recall this century that someone in the media, who's been serious, predicted the Lions to reach the Super Bowl, prior to an NFL season.

Predicting the 2023 NFL season results for each division
..........
Seahawks vs. the Chiefs as the Super Bowl matchup is a realistic possibility. That much more if Chris Jones is back with the Chiefs and if Geno Smith plays at or close to his 2022 season level. These are the Lions first 2 opponents this season.

Bold predictions for the 2023 Detroit Lions season
..........
The more the Lions win, the more likely Taylor Decker will get the type of recognition that leads to a player being voted/ selected to the Pro Bowl.
An 0-2 start for the Lions wouldn't surprise me, even though I'm planning to pick the Lions to pull an upset in Kansas City.
Jahmyr Gibbs has the potential to be a Theo Riddick type of receiver, with much more speed than Riddick had.
If the Lions do kick a FG longer than 53 yards (I realize Jeff Risdon mentioned 51 yards as his projected limit for the Lions this season), it probably would be on the last play of the first half, regulation time, or on the last play of OT.
If the Lions lead the NFL in Sack %, which is realistically possible (I'm not predicting it), the Lions should emerge as legit Super Bowl contenders.

Lions have great chance to snag the top seed in the NFC
.........
The Lions have a very challenging game right after the bye. While the LA Chargers often underachieve as a team and that they will be coming off a game at the NY Jets (3 time zones away) on MNF, they are arguably more talented than the Lions. In addition to the rest advantage, the Lions should have at least as many fans in Sofi Stadium as the Chargers. Yet, a 3 time zone trip and a talented Chargers team make this game a difficult one on paper for the Lions.
Beating the Vikings, especially in Minnesota, could prove to be difficult. So much depends on their QB situation at the time and the Lions health situation.
The Lions can't take any opponent for granted.
