Lions & RB David Montgomery (UFA-Bears) agree on 3 yr deal

My take is this is a contract the Lions would have seriously considered giving Jaamal Williams, if he would have agreed to it before the start of the Legal NFL FA Tampering Period. Once the Lions saw the opportunity to sign David Montgomery and Williams didn't agree to a contract with the Lions by a specific point in time on Tuesday, the Lions decided to work out a contract with David Montgomery's agent.
While Jaamal Williams is a better short yardage and goal line runner, David Montgomery is better than Williams in practically all other facets of RB play. Williams intangibles added to his value enormously. He will be greatly missed by me and most other Lions fans. But when considering Montgomery is around 2 years & 2 months younger than Williams and the overall value Montgomery brings to the table, I'm more than comfortable with the direction the Lions went in.
I wish Jaamal Williams and his family great health and success. Williams' positive impact in his 2 years with the Lions was greater than any Lions player I can recall who played for the Lions for 2 or less seasons.
