I'm very surprised, close to shocked, that the Lions didn't end up re-signing DeShon Elliott, now knowing the basic numbers he agreed to sign with the Dolphins for. With Tracy Walker coming off a Torn Achillies and Elliott being the Lions best Box option at Safety for the Lions in the 2022 season, it's hard to comprehend why the Lions and Elliott didn't come to an agreement on a new contract. Unless Elliott believes Miami is a better opportunity for him to get more snaps and this was an overriding factor in why he's headed towards Miami, nothing else adds up to why Elliott is no longer with the Lions.

Potential replacements for DeShon Elliott at safety in Detroit

Will Harris probably will get some snaps as the Lions 3rd Safety.

Ifeatu Melifonwu's greatest struggles last season when he played extensively was vs. the run, in the start for the injured DeShon Elliott at Carolina. Not having Elliott in that game could have well been the difference in the Lions not making the playoffs.

Nick Scott is an intriguing option. However, the price range mentioned in the article is a concern, if the expectation would be for Scott to be the Lions # 3 Safety.
