Lions free agency preview: Cornerback soars to top of team needs
...........
The FA Safety market looks much better than the FA CB market.
In addition to the health factor, Rock Ya-Sin and Emmanuel Moseley have mostly been used in Zone Coverage in the NFL. I think the Lions probably prefer more proven man to man coverage options, especially when considering cost and health history.
Cameron Sutton is an intriguing CB option, as he would be a viable option to starting on the outside or as a Slot CB.

Eagles to release Darius Slay
Former star Lions CB Darius Slay to be released by Philadelphia Eagles
.........
As much as the Eagles Salary Cap situation led to Darius Slay's upcoming release (barring a late trade), I thought the Eagles and Slay would work either work out a contract agreement that would satisfy both parties or Slay being traded for something the Eagles would be satisfied with.
Because the post June 1 salary cap designation wasn't an option if a trade was made before June 1, that probably was the reason the Eagles decided to release Slay. From the Eagles point of view, they apparently didn't get a good enough trade offer to absorb the entire cap hit on their 2023 Salary Cap. a
It's highly unlikely that the Lions will be the team Darius Slay signs with. The Lions addressing CB with the FA agreements with Cam Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley, with Will Harris coming back as well, makes it hard to envision the Lions investing heavily in another veteran CB this year. That much more with Slay very likely going to get a contract that exceeds the value of the contract that Cam Sutton agreed to with the Lions.
