NFL combine 2019: Devin White headlines linebacker options for Lions
…………………..
This thread relates to the following thread:
Lions have Pick # 8 in the 2019 NFL Draft
Based on the Lions signing DE Trey Flowers to a lucrative contract and addressing the CB position twice in a meaningful way in Free Agency ( Justin Coleman and Rashaan Melvin ), a solid case can be made that Devin White would provide the Lions the best combination of value in the # 8 spot of the draft. The Lions front 7 could easily be the strength of the team if the Lions draft White. Whether he will still be available with pick # 8 remains to be seen. The next few weeks should provide a better picture of the likelihood of White being available with pick # 8.

Devin White visiting Bucs, Giants, Bengals
…………..
Because many believe Devon White is a prime candidate to be pick # 8 by the Lions if he's still available, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Lions bring him in for a Pre-Draft visit. This isn't a Frank Ragnow type of situation in which it makes sense to try to keep the Lions interest in White a secret.

Devin White to visit with Raiders
……………..
Right now, I believe the Raiders will pass on Devin White with pick # 4. But White is likely in the discussion to be pick # 4 by them.

2019 NFL draft preview: Lions plotting their next move at linebacker
……………………………………
The Lions can use a more dynamic/ impact LB than Christian Jones. It comes down to opportunity cost.
More depth/ competition, including on Special Teams, is needed at LB.
Blake Cashman has plenty of Special Teams potential and pass coverage potential. The major concern with him as a LB prospect is very short arms.
Emeke Egbule might not have the natural instincts to develop into a LB who can be counted on beyond Special Teams.

NFL draft: LB class offers Detroit Lions intriguing options in Round 1
………………….. If the Lions are comfortable with Devin Bush's size, he likely would be a serious consideration if the Lions trade down from pick # 8.
Mac Wilson is someone the Lions are very familiar with because of tbe close ties with the Alabama program. I'm not on Wilson if he's available at pick # 43 in Round 2. I doubt he will be available with pick # 88 in.Round 3. From the standpoint of natural physical talent, Wilson would be very good valuable at # 43. Whether he has the natural feel, especially against the run, is a question that jumps out. Wilson likely would have benefited going back to Alabama for his Senior season.
Jachai Polite is a better player than a physical test ( Combine type ) of athlete. If the Lions brass believes he would be a good fit at OLB ( pass coverage is the # 1 question ), he would provide the type of versatility that could easily appeal to Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia. Polite's production with Florida this past season, which was his Junior season, was impressive. Including, 11 sacks, 6 Passes Deflected, and 6 Forced Fumbles. Bob Quinn's history in drafting and signing UF players is something worth keeping in mind moving forward. If Polite is available at pick # 88 and the Lions are satisfied with his character off the field, he's likely a major contender to be pick # 88. If the Lions add a 2nd or 3rd Round pick before # 88, Polite could be taken by the Lions with that pick.

Detroit Lions 2019 NFL Draft prospect: Michigan LB Devin Bush
…………….
My main concern with Devin Bush on the NFL level is will he be able to stay relatively healthy much more often than not? Even with great instincts and preparation, that might not be enough for Bush to hold up physically. Ernie Sims comes to mind as an undersized Lions LB whose NFL career derailed because of the cumulative affect of his injuries.
In a trade down, I would be comfortable with the Lions drafting Devin Bush. He was a heck of a player in college and he has everything but size as an NFL prospect.

Detroit Lions 2019 NFL Draft prospect: LSU LB Devin White
……………
A major benefit of having a Defensive Line that can occupy blockers and get push into the Offensive Backfield is it gives the team the luxury of having LBs that don't have close to the prototype size.
Because there is a need to be able to have two LBs that can matchup in coverage, especially in man to man coverage, Devin White makes a great amount of sense for the Lions at pick # 8. White, like Jarrad Davis brings the effective blitz dimension. Matt Patricia and co. would have tremendous flexibility to put Defensive plays into the weekly game plan.
