When the dust settles, I think Jaamal Williams will end up re-signing with the Lions. It makes too much sense for both parties NOT to come to a new contract agreement. Williams is an invaluable leader on the Lions, who is coming off a record breaking season. Williams can benefit greatly long after his NFL playing career is over, if he's a part of a Lions team that ends up at least going to the Super Bowl. That much more if Williams is on a Lions team that wins at least one Super Bowl.

The Lions probably can compensate for losing Jamaal Williams from the standpoint of on the field play by one or more other RBs. It's the intangible element of Williams that would be very difficult to replace. The intangible element is why Williams is projected to get a contract over $ 4 million per season.
