Good signing. I like it; AND Rashaan Melvin’s taking responsibility for his results last season. He didn’t blame injuries, coaches, or scheme like so many players do. I think he wants to prove something this season; and playing in Matt Patricia’s defense, again, should help him achieve that goal.

Joe, related to what you said, I view the Rashaan Melvin signing as a calculated risk by the Lions. The Lions signed Melvin for $ 3.5 million this season. Nevin Lawson would have been on the books for as much as $5.8 million, if the Lions would have given him the $ 1.25 million roster bonus that was due in the middle of March.
As a CB, Melvin provides a higher reward for the Lions this season but with higher risk than Lawson.

Definitely a risk involved; but I still like this signing. I know Rashaan Melvin had a disappointing season last year; but the talent is there. I really respect him for taking full responsibility for his lack of performance; and believe he will be totally committed & focused going into the season.

Agreed, Joe.
I think Rashaan Melvin's familiarity with Matt Patricia and the Lions Defensive system is a huge part of why the decision to sign him at this contract price is a good risk/ reward decision.

Detroit Lions tried to get new cornerback Rashaan Melvin in 2018• Rashaan Melvin didn’t play his best football last season with the Oakland Raiders, but the belief in Detroit is that he’s much better suited for the Lions defense. Melvin played for Patricia in New England, of course, and the Lions even reached out to the Raiders about trading for him last season. I don’t believe his addition precludes the Lions from going cornerback somewhere high in the draft (Day 2 more likely than Day 1, in my opinion), but the Lions are hopeful that Melvin will return to the form he showed with the Indianapolis Colts in 2017. …......…...…………......... I agree that a CB is more likely going to be drafted by the Lions in Round 2 or 3 than in Round 1.
