A little disappointed by this news. While there was no guarantee that Malcom Brown would have even made the Lions’ opening day roster, I would like to have seen what he would have done with the opportunity.

Joe, the most disappointing aspect of the Rams matching the Lions offer sheet to Malcolm Brown is the versatility Brown could have provided. Including, his receiving, blitz protection skills, and that he's a high caliber Special Teams player. All, at a cost that would have been favorable.

A few more tidbits from Phoenix
• The Rams felt compelled to match the Lions’ offer for restricted free agent running back Malcolm Brown not necessarily because of Todd Gurley’s health but because Brown is such a key contributor on special teams. Brown played only about 28 percent of the Rams’ special-teams snaps last year, but he missed the final quarter of the season with a clavicle injury (one he suffered against the Lions) and projects to play an even bigger role in the kicking game this fall.
The money the Lions offered Brown for 2019 ($2.1 million in first-year guarantees) was similar to what they gave Johnson Bademosi in the first year of his contract back in 2016, which is good for a special-teams player but not overwhelming enough to force the cap-strapped Rams to pass.
………...……….
The Rams didn't wait until the Monday Afternoon deadline to match the offer sheet to Malcolm Brown. That's an indicator of the value per dollar their team brass believes he has for them.

Todd Gurley happy to have Malcolm Brown back
……………
It's going to be interesting to see how the RB situations with the Lions and Rams play out.....with the Rams matching the Lions offer sheet to Malcolm Brown and the Lions soon after signing C.J. Anderson as an UFA. .
