PFT’s Week 5 2022 NFL picks
Lions (+3) at Patriots
MDS’s take: We don’t know who’s playing quarterback for the Patriots, but any offense should score a lot of points against the terrible Lions defense.
MDS’s pick: Patriots 38, Lions 31.
Florio’s take: Bill Belichick will be able to slow down the Detroit offense, and the Patriots will have enough offense to outscore the Lions — especially with former Detroit coach Matt Patricia anxious to get a crack at his old team.
Florio’s pick: Patriots 34, Lions 20.
.......
I'm probably going to pick the Patriots to win this game. It's especially difficult to go against Bill Belichick when the Patriots are the home team, and their backs are to the wall. I do think this game will be a single digit margin of victory (or as much as a 10 point margin), regardless of which team wins.

4 Lions who need good games vs. the Patriots in Week 5 ' ...........
This thread relates to the following thread:
Seahawks 48, Lions 45: Game # 4 ( 2022)
detroit-lions-forum.proboards.com/thread/1564/seahawks-48-lions-game-2022
Charles Harris struggled in the first 3 quarters of the Seahawks game. I thought he played much better in the 4th QTR. Whether he plays at all at New England, because of a groin injury, remains to be seen.
Julian Okwara needs to step up. He has differential ability as pass rusher, minus the power element.
With Jerry Jacobs practicing this week for the first time since he suffered a torn ACL in Denver last December, Amani Oruwariye is in serious danger of losing his starting job, if he hasn't already. Oruwariye will likely be challenged by the Patriots. Matt Patricia certainly is aware of Oruwariye's skill set, including his problems with tackling.

Patriots rookie WR Tyquan Thornton activated, set to make much-anticipated NFL debut
...........
Tyquan Thornton was taken in the 2nd Round of the 2022 Draft (pick # 50). He ran a 4.28 40 at the Combine. He's a tall/ thin WR with small hands. Thornton's big time speed is definitely something the Lions will have to account for.
Matt Sokol had 2 stints with the Lions, including the earlier part of the 2022 off-season. But the closest Sokol was to being on the Lions 53 man roster was a brief Practice Squad Stint in 2020.

Predictions: Detroit Lions at New England Patriots
.........
I agree with Justin Rogers:
And even though a third-string rookie is expected to be making his first start for the Patriots at quarterback, the Lions aren’t deserving of your faith they can suddenly fix the issues that have plagued them all season.

Scouting report: Detroit Lions at New England Patriots October 7, 2022
.........
The Patriots have an additional Jones, who plays CB. Marcus Jones (University of Houston) was drafted by the Patriots in Round 3 (pick # 85) of the 2022 Draft. Marcus Jones has big time Special Teams return skills.
Matthew Judon is a differential player. The Lions need to neutralize Judon. No one else in their front 7 on Defense has close to the game altering skills that Juden has.

Detroit Lions vs. New England Patriots: Scouting report, prediction
...........
TE Hunter Henry is off to a slow start statistically this season. With TE Jonnu Smith Doubtful for the game with an ankle injury, Henry is someone the Lions need to pay close attention to. Henry has been one of the most productive TEs in the passing game in his previous NFL seasons. Henry had 75 receptions and a career high 9 TDs last season, his first with New England. This, after signing with them as an UFA from the LA Chargers. Henry has 30 career TDs.

Five things to watch: Detroit Lions at New England Patriots
.......
The Lions Offense isn't going to average 35 points per game throughout the season. The Lions Defense needs to step up beginning today in New England. Anything remotely close to the Defensive performance last week vs. the Seahawks is beyond unacceptable.

Mac Jones among list of inactives for Patriots in Week 5 vs Lions
..........
My prediction for the game is Patriots 27, Lions 26.
While I believe the Lions Defense will get the Patriots off the field at least a couple of times, without giving up a TD or FG, or FG attempt, the Patriots Defense will limit the Lions Offense just enough for their 3rd string QB rookie to help lead them to victory. I'm not predicting the Lions will win against a Bill Belichick coached Patriots team in Foxborough.
