It's certainly not surprising that the Lions placed Levi Onwuzurike on IR. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he has season ending surgery in the coming days or weeks. With Levi O not playing a down for the Lions this season.

Being that the Lions placed Levi Onwuzurike on IR without adding anyone to the 53 man roster today, the Lions might have a vested veteran in mind to fill the roster spot sometime after tomorrow's game vs. the Eagles. That's beginning when Vested Veteran salaries for the entire season wouldn't be guaranteed. Jaguars UFA Malcom Brown is one possibility to fill the roster spot.

For Levi Onwuzurike to have a realistic chance of playing in the NFL again, surgery was very likely the only viable option. Hopefully, Onwuzurike makes a full recovery and doesn't have back problems in the future.
