Predicting the next round of Detroit Lions roster cuts
.......
If the Lions release one or more players to get down to 80 players, the only player mentioned in the article that I would be surprised is in the cutdown to 80 players, is RB Jermar Jefferson. I think Jefferson helped his cause in the pre-season game at Indianapolis and remains in the mix to be on the Lions opening day roster. It's more likely the Lions would cut Riley Patterson tomorrow than a RB, if it came down to those options.

Lions place Jameson Williams, 3 others on reserve get to 80-man roster limit
.........
Jerry Jacobs is the only Lions player on the PUP List or NFI List to currently remain on the Lions now 80 Man Roster. The other 4, as mentioned in the article, are on the Regular Season version of the respective lists.
Shaun Dion Hamilton wasn't someone I expected the Lions to release in the Cutdown to 80 players. I thought he had somewhere between a 40% and 47% chance of surviving the cutdown to 53. Because SDH isn't on the level on Special Teams as the Lions LBs in competition for the final LB roster spots, he had an uphill battle to make the Lions 53 man opening day roster.
By releasing SDH in the cutdown to 80, he has a better chance to latch on to another team than would have been the case if he was released in the cutdown to 53. He probably will have to go the Practice Squad route to get back on a regular season roster.
