Jared Goff is airing out deeper throws more often in 2022, and it's working for the Lions

When factoring in the Lions injuries on Offense and the struggles of the Lions Defense, I'm encouraged by the improvement of Jared Goff this season. With many more large chunk plays at or near the top of what's most encouraging about Goff and the Lions overall Offense. The one sided loss to the Patriots was disappointing. But through 5 games, it was an exception, regarding the results of the Lions Offense.
If the Lions can get much healthier on Offense and get stability & consistently better from the RG position, the Lions Offense should be amongst the best in the NFL in the combined remaining 12 regular season games.

There's no question that there are many better QBs in the NFL than Jared Goff. Yet, an NFL Draft doesn't remotely guarantee that the QB who a team selects in Round 1 or at any point of a draft, will even come close to expectations when drafting that player. IMHO, a high degree of confidence on a QB opportunity in the 2023 Draft should be needed to move on from Jared Goff.

Dan Campbell, Jared Goff have no regrets about the controversial late 3rd down call

Bills 28, Lions 25 :Game # 11 ( 2022 )

The intended pass to Josh Reynolds against the Dolphins was deep on the right side of the field. Reynolds thought the ball was going to be on the outside, Goff through the ball inside. Reynolds didn't secure the ball, when trying to make an adjustment.
For whatever reasons, the Lions haven't been successful overall on these long vertical plays. It's something that Dan Campbell, Ben Johnson, and co. are going to need to look at closely in the evaluation process of this season, to determine whether the issue is physical limitations for Goff and/ or other factors.
On 4th Down, I believe the right decision was to attempt a 51 yard FG. The Lions injuries at Guard made it too risky to try for the 1st Down in that situation, especially with the Lions already using plays in this game in 4th and short situations. It gets back to the Kickoff following the FG going into the end zone, hence no time went off the clock, with the Bills starting at their own 25 yard line.

Jared Goff checks in lowly in PFN's quarterback rankings
........
Jared Goff didn't throw an interception (not counting the Interception at Chicago that was negated by a Hands to the Face Penalty) in his final 9 games of the 2022 season and in his last 324 passes overall. Goff's only turnover he was directly involved in during the final 9 games was on the botched snap exchange with Frank Ragnow at Carolina. Goff had 29 TDs and 7 Interceptions, with 4438 Passing Yards and a 99.3 Passer Rating. Goff definitely should have been noticeably higher than 22nd on the PNN List. When considering the Lions injury situation on Offense in the 2022 season and the Lions struggles on Defense in the first 7 combined games, the results Goff provided in helping lead the Lions to an 8-2 finish to the season and a 9-8 overall record, should have been enough for Goff to be ranked (based on performance) in the top half of NFL starting QBs.
