Once the Lions re-signed Alex Anzalone, the chances of Jalen Reeves-Maybin re-signing with the Lions were reduced substantially. While I preferred JRM over Anzalone, I understand the Lions decision. Anzalone's long history with Dan Campbell and Aaron Glenn from their Saints days, likely was a significant factor in the Lions decision making. The salary cap savings (though on the small side), probably factored into the decision to a lesser extent.

JRM will be missed. His two forced fumbles (at Minnesota and in Atlanta) late in games this past season, gave the Lions a good opportunity to win both those games. His Special Teams play and leadership were major assets for the Lions. JRM should be a good fit for Texans new HC Lovie Smith's Defense and their Special Teams. I wish JRM well.

Houston Texans add depth at LB with Jalen Reeves-Maybin signing

The Texans currently don't have any LBs who are clearly better all around LBs. Their LBs are mainly a collection of players that are on their 2nd or more teams in the NFL.

Being that Lovie Smith will likely use his 4-3 Cover 2 based scheme as their foundation on Defense, JRM probably is going to need to noticeably improve in pass coverage in order to be AND remain a starting LB for them. Otherwise, he will mostly be a core Special Teams player, which was his role with the Lions in most of the previous 4 seasons.
