Practice squad: Detroit Lions reportedly sign LB Jason Cabinda

`One thought that comes to kind is the Lions-Raiders joint training camp practices in 2018 likely contributed to the Lions reportedly signing James Cabinda to the team's Practice Squad. With the Lions having only 6 LBs ( 5 relatively healthy ) on the 53 man roster, I think there's around a 50-50 chance that the Lions will sign another LB to the P.S.
No surprise at all that Brandon Powell is signing with a different P.S. instead of signing with the Lions P.S. It easily could be a mutual decision, especially with tbe waiver claim of a player with many similarities ( J.D. McKissic ).
With Mitchell Loewen going to the Saints P.S. , I'm anticipating the Lions plan is to re-sign Eric Lee in tbe coming days. With Austin Bryant likely heading to Short Term I.R. Lee has more familiarity than Loewen in the Lions Defensive Scheme and with Lions coaches.

…………..
The James Cabinda report proved incorrect.
I like the Mark Thompson, Isaac Nauta ,and Johnathan Duhart Practice Squad signings in particular.
I'm disappointed but not surprised that Brandon Powell, P.J. Johnson, and Malik Carney didn't end up on the Lions Practice Squad as the outcome.

I’m glad I was wrong about Isaac Nauta not making it through waivers; and happy that he’s back with the Lions...even if it is just the practice squad, for now.

Joe, it's definitely welcome news.
Looking ahead: If another team offers Isaac Nauta a contract to join their 53 man roster, the question becomes will the Lions offer Nauta a contract to be promoted to the 53 man roster? So much could depend on how Nauta is developing and the Lions injury situation at that point of the season.

…………..
A day later, the earlier report proved correct.
Austin Traylor has a realistic shot at another Lions opportunity.

Notes: The Lions announced they’ve signed running back David Williams to the practice squad, and cut quarterback Chad Kanoff in the corresponding move. Williams is a former Arkansas back who was taken by Denver in the seventh round of last year’s draft. He was cut coming out of camp, but latched on with Jacksonville and had eight carries for 36 yards in six games.
……………..
It's not surprising the Lions moved on from Chad Kanoff, now that the Cardinals game is history.

Notes: The Lions have released running back David Williams after just one day on the practice squad, and filled the vacant space by signing running back Nick Brossette. An undrafted rookie out of LSU, Broussette camped with the Patriots (of course) and led the NFL in rushing during the preseason. He had 212 yards and three touchdowns on 65 carries for New England, and added 36 yards by way of five catches.
……………
Nick Brossette brings a power dimension to the table. He's probably not going to beat many in the NFL with speed.
The Lions saw Brossette up close during the joint practices with the Patriots and the opening pre-season game.
