VERY surprised that the article lists Theo Riddick as a “roster lock”; I don’t see it that way at all. He IS a great “third down” back with his receiving skills AND his blitz pick-up ability; but he doesn’t offer much else as a “running” back and does NOT contribute on special teams. Plus, the cost of his contract versus his contribution is on the high side. Right now...and a lot can change...if I had to guess, I see Theo Riddick as a lot closer to being cut than as a “roster lock”.

Joe, I agree with you that Theo Riddick is far from a roster lock. Early in Riddick's career, he was a very good Special Teams player. Then after that, his roles on Special Teams were cut down because of his value as a receiver. Not to mention, an eventual increased rushing load at RB. He probably will need to demonstrate good Special Teams play this summer to help his chances in sticking around with the Lions for tbe 2019 regular season. Especially, if Kerryon Johnson enters the regular season relatively healthy and rookie Ty Johnson is progressing well.

Lions ‘heavily discussed’ a trade for Falcons RB Devonta Freeman, per report
………………
Devonta Freeman probably has seen his best days as a RB on tbe field. Ideally, the Lions would have been able to upgrade the RB situation at a price that was on the favorable side for the Lions. Though Freeman probably would have been an upgrade for the Lions current RB situation, to what extent is difficult to assess.
