Very good news!


One aspect in particular of the Lions re-signing Zach Zenner that I like is it gives the Lions more flexibility in the draft. The Lions can now be more selective about the approach with RBs in the draft. I think Zenner is capable of being the #2 RB in a rushing rotation.

YES!!! I have been a Zach Zenner fan from the very start.
While I have no aspirations of him EVER becoming a #1 RB; I think he’s a quality backup. I very happy that the Lions were able to resign him.

Because Zach Zenner became a good short yardage/ goal line runner, is a reliable receiver, and good at picking up blitzes, there are a number of different roles he can contribute at RB, in addition to helping with the overall Lions rushing load.

With the addition of Ty Johnson in the 6th Round of the 2019 Draft, the Lions have 5 RBs ( not counting FBs) realistically in the mix for roster spots. If the Lions keep 4 RBs, Special Teams and overall versatility help Zenner's cause in remaining on the roster.

Even if the Lions are fortunate with Kerryon Johnson, C.J. Anderson and Zach Zenner all staying relatively healthy this season, all 3 should get plenty of carries. There could be games in which Anderson is in essence the # 2 RB. With Zenner in essence the # 2 RB in some other games.
